Planet Drop

The award-nominated cosmic puzzler

An addictive cosmic puzzle game where you drop planets to merge them into ever bigger celestial bodies, trying to create a supermassive blackhole to clear your way to more high scores. Identical planets combine to form new planets, and players need to make their drops in the right places to ensure they don't block themselves and fill the well; game over. The merging planets get ever bigger until a star is created and then two stars will create a blackhole which clears the playing space to allow for higher scoring. There is a high score leader board and the game features a soundtrack with multiple different tunes to enjoy. Merge planets, climb the leader board, and create your ultimate galaxy!

What makes Planet Drop Unique?

Planet Drop follows a similar gameplay structure to a lot of Suika-likes, so why play this one? Firstly, Planet Drop has great pixel art visuals for the planets and a beautiful space-themed background. The main innovation comes with the type of planets that you can get. For example, every turn there's a 1% chance of getting a golden planet which can combine with any planet, even the sun. Or a shooting star, which randomly doubles the points of a random planet. What about an asteroid, which destroys every planet in it's path for a massive point bonus. All this and more will be present in the final game (which may include an appearance from a UFO among other things).

Credits

The game features a credits page because while the game was programmed by myself, I used a lot of free assets on itch.io that deserve to be credited.

Gameplay Video

This gameplay video showcases how the game has changed from it's origins as a game jam made in just 3 hours to a fully fleshed out game with great art and music.

About Me

I'm Daniel, a young game developer from the UK. I like to participate in game jams and make short games. I am self-taught, using Unity to make all of my games. I hope to release Planet Drop on Steam and Mobile devices in Late 2025 as well as finish another game before the end of the year.
